I am one of those people that get bored of my hair easily and like change often. I am going to be looking for a job soon, though, so I don't want to dye it black with brightly colored highlights as I had originally planned. I was thinking of dying it a dark blond with brown and natural-looking red highlights. Would I have to dye my hair the blond first (washing and drying thoroughly) and then bleach the strands that I want a different color afterward? Or is there an easier/better/quicker/more effective way?How to dye AND highlight hair?
That would be too much trouble for me. Just get the L'Oreal haircolor that includes highlights in the box

What brand is best for at home hair highlighting?
I'm naturally dark red, but I'd like to add a couple of caramel lites for fun...which is the best brand to use? Which is the worst??What brand is best for at home hair highlighting?
I have used the Herbal Essences Highlighting Kits with great success. There are some thing you can't do at home, but highlights are not that complicated, though I would recommend you have a friend do the back of your head (since I don't have eyes back there, some of my lines got a little blurry and such). But they don't dry out your hair and they look very vibrant and natural.
I say go for it.What brand is best for at home hair highlighting?
i liked loreal feria (idk if they still make it) when i used to color my hair caramel colored. but my natural color is very dark brown.
This is a good question
Matrix is great, your highlights will last longer and hair softer. I too would NOT do highlights at home, pay more and go to a salon
i would not try this at home. to light a hair at home is very difficult. Trust me. I'm experienced in this.

Is it safe to highlight hair during first trimester?
Hi,
When I found out that I was pregnant, I told my doctor that I had been coloring my hair and wanted to know if it was safe to keep doing it during pregnancy. She told me to wait until after the first trimester. At the time, I didn't ask any further questions because the baby comes first. But one month later- yikes!!! My roots are terrible. Just wondering, did anyone whose doctor told them not to use all over color during the first trimester recommend a safe alternative (i.e., highlights?) Please don't write just to tell me that it is ';always'; or ';never'; safe during any time of pregnancy, since I'm trying to follow Dr.'s guidelines about being more cautious during the first trimester. Thanks, ladies =)Is it safe to highlight hair during first trimester?
I would say that it would be safer for you to highlight your hair insted of an all over color. If you can use sun in on it and sit outside or rinse it in lemon juice and stay outside on a sunny day this will help give you natural highlights without chemicals. Is it safe to highlight hair during first trimester?
Well, I decided to wait for my third trimester to color my hair, but I'm sure it depends on many factors. There are ammonia free colorants, but sounds like you must be going several shades lighter, which means much harsher chemicals. If you decide that you MUST color, then make sure you are in a very well ventilated area, and maybe opt for a color closer to your natural color so that you can do without the bleach.
I actually was told by my OB that highlights were a good alternative to all over hair color in pregnancy. They did suggest that i keep it to just the top layer and not all over high lights. If you are worried about the chemicals, most hair stylists know of products that they can use that are lower in amonia. I hope this helps.
i had the same problem but i just waited till after the 12 weeks then i dyed it darker back to my natural colour for the rest of my pregnancy. i would wait if i was you, peroxide cant be good for the baby - having said that i have a girlfriend who dyed her hair blonde all the way through (even first trimester) but i wouldn't want to take the chance! tie your hair up its not that long!!
no its not good to even highlight during the first trimester at least...as after 10mins the chemicals can be detected in your urine...so imagine it would have gone to your baby as well...
the first trimester is critical..
Highlighting is actually safer than coloring because the chemical never really touches your scalp. That's what my doctor told me. Although I've had really bad nausea and haven't been able to stomach the idea of that awful smell. But you should be fine highlighting.
I dyed my hair 2 times with this pregnancy my babys fine i just had my cousin do it when i was outside that way the smell doesnt bother me..
I've always heard your not supposed to be around those kind of chemicals. So i'd stay away from it until your little one gets here!
No I was told not to.
Your roots can wait a couple weeks. really. I was extremely, like level 11 blonde and my roots were effing GROSS and i was just like whatever, as soon as i hit 14 weeks i just went all dark. Highlights usually need bleach, and bleach isnt really that great to use in the first trimester. HOWEVER highlights in a foil should be safe because they dont touch your scalp- so that would be a great alternative to all over, on scalp color. I asked my stylist and she personally wont do an all over color job on a woman who is in the first trimester. also, the color likely wont be what your used to. Your hair changes when youre pregnant. also, DONT use sun in. if your hair is damaged from bleach and dye already, sun in will seal the deal on damaged hair...its a metallic bunch of nonsense (most box dyes and stuff they sell in stores is) and it will really eff up your hair, especially if youre blonde.myspace pictures

How should i highlight my brunette hair?
so i want to dye and highlight my hair..
but i dont know what to do..
i want it darkish brown with something..
but idk what..
its not a matter about what i look like...
i just need to SEE some options of what color and type of highlights might look good with my darkish brown hair.. so please help!! id love it.. thankyou..How should i highlight my brunette hair?
If you already have brunette hair and are looking for ways to save some hard earned, beauty-splurge cash, why not go back to your roots and go the natural route? Despite popular fears that brown hair is boring, there are plenty of spicy ways to add a timeless look to your already beautiful brunette hair.
* Enrich: Enrich your natural color with an allover shade a few shades richer. To add some contrast and interest, ask your stylist to weave in a few copper hair highlights.
* Deepen: Go chocolate! If you鈥檙e natural brown borders on moussey, richen it up with a decadent shade of chocolate brown, which will add instant drama with little investment.
* Shine: Shine or color glossing treatments adds sparkle and sheen to dark hair. A glossing treatment can be done in the salon for a bargain price and will instantly add some life to your locks.
* Vanilla and Chocolate: Want the best of both worlds? Brunettes can still play with blonde without a large commitment. Ask your stylist to add a few strategically placed blonde hair highlights around your face to brighten your look while keeping the rest of your color natural.
* Chunk: Although not as trendy as days gone past, statement chunking techniques on a dark base add instant pop and a low maintenance color choice for those seeking a dramatic and bold look. Experiment with shades of blue, blonde, or red chunks. Get creative! How should i highlight my brunette hair?

Should I highlight my hair?
I have naturally light brown hair with auburnish highlights, green eyes, and a really pale complexion. Unfortunately, I dont have naturally rosy pink cheeks. I want to get my hair highlighted with some dark or medium goldish/blonde highlights. Would this color work for me? Or would it wash me out completely? Also, I got a perm months ago and the curls didnt last. Now its just made my hair even thicker and harder to deal with. With the chemicals still intact, would it be safe to highlight?Should I highlight my hair?
DO NOT GET HIGHLIGHTS WITH ANY TYPE OF PERM!!!
my hair broke and I had to cut it all off! You have to wait for the perm to grow out completely. You can color your hair but be careful with highlights!Should I highlight my hair?
yes you should because i did it and i was a guy magnet my friends asked me how do i do it i said its all about the highlights it makes you look cute and with the yellow or gold in your hair it will look awesome my friend had brow hair and she put yellow or god in her hair and it work for her and my hair is also brown with yellow highlights in it
It's damaging but sure go ahead. You won't notice until you about fourty how much you screwed it up.
I would probably give your hair a break. Seems like it could be a little stressed out due to all the chemicals. I would wait about 5 months before trying anything else chemical wise with it. Give it some time to get hydrated and repair. But if you have pale skin I wouldn't want to go too light, for it will wash you out. Maybe try going a little bit darker with some red hints in it. That would probably do wonders for your pale skin and green eyes. Hope I helped out.
i wouldnt highlight it.... maybe wait a while until your hair is safe from the chemicals, and then try. if it looks bad, then just dye it back to the way it was before i guess. personally, i dont think gold/blonde highlights would look natural with your hair color and complexion. but if you want to, go ahead and try it. you never know
do what your heart desires.

I wanna highlight my hair with lemon juice.....but its november and hardly any sun...can u use a lightbulb??
i wanna highlight my hair with lemon juice ( my hair is dark brown) BUT THERES NO SUN LIGHT SENSE ITS NOVEMBER!!! can i put lemon juice in it and sit under a light bulb and will it highlight without damage?I wanna highlight my hair with lemon juice.....but its november and hardly any sun...can u use a lightbulb??
no, you can't use a lightbulb. the onlything you could use is like, something like a tanning bed light bulb. that has the stuff that's in the sun, vitamin D that makes you tan and your hair lighten. I used lemon juice when it was sunny and it workes, but smells really bad at first. the difference won't be that drastic either.I wanna highlight my hair with lemon juice.....but its november and hardly any sun...can u use a lightbulb??
lemon juice will dry your hair (people use citrus juice to wash oily hair so if your hair is not oily please stay away from it)
i think you should just get some chemical highlights instead since your hair is dark brown and you can't expect a lot from just some lemon juice
my experience as a very black-haired asian: my cousin put chemical dye (light blond) on my hair and it didn't work as people would only notice my hair turned into somewhat very dark brown (instead of black) only if i stand under very bright yellow light or sunshine. so i can imagine that lemon juice won't work and you'll later want to get some chemical highlight instead (but the lemon already dry your hair up, damaging it)
dont use a light bulb.
and if you put lemon juice in your hair it messes your hair up and it can also look very dry instead of shiny.

As far as makeup for blue/blonde. I have blonde hair and gold (like a cats) eyes, but I sometimes wear sapphire blue contacts. Wear bronze colors and some deep blues in the crease. Go to Almay's website. They make ';i-color'; shadows for diff eye colors. I love em. I think it's almay.com or somethin.
foundation for evening out skin tone, powder for setting foundation, concealer for covering up any zits, blush for color.

I think that would look really cool!!I have black hair should i highlight my hair with blue?
If you want to highlight your hair with blue then you will first need to bleach it. Kind of like a blue over black doesn't show too much. BUT...if you mean LOWLIGHT it with blue (a darker blue) then all you have to do is tint your hair one level darker. If it is already black then the next level down will be a blue/black anyway!
Good luck!
yea and do the emo hair look but dont color all blue!
Get midnight blue. You can only see the blue in the sun.
well yeah but dont let eh high lights be sooo dark .. let them be like light a little bit so they can be noticable
do you REALLY want your hair to look like a bruise??? really?????
yepp!! if you want the emo look go for it but dont dye it all blue. for thick highlights, go with just a few streakes. but dont go with alot of blue streakes or it'll look wierd.
hope dis help!!! x]]

i haven't permed my hair since then so its grown out some, so is it safe to highlight my hair blonde? Can you highlight your hair?
Yes, its safe to highlight you hair. By chance, what color is it? If it's natural black, don't make it blonde. Get orange or red streaks. :]Can you highlight your hair?
Yes I think it will work =) Totally safe, no worriesmyspace pictures

Why doesn't Locks of Love accept bleached or highlighted hair?
I was really looking forward to donating, but I guess I don't qualify, even if I color over the highlights?
Also, don't you find it rather discriminatory that they won't accept dreadlocks, or is there something about that kind of style that just can't be worked into a wig? I find that hard to believe. Why doesn't Locks of Love accept bleached or highlighted hair?
I got this information from their site...they do accept colored hair but not bleached ..if you read on it will tell you why ...
DONATE HAIR
Please Note: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the guidelines listed below are followed. We encourage all of our donors to go to a salon they are already familiar with to ensure their comfort when donating.
GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTABLE DONATIONS
* Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
* Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
* Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process.
* Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
* Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
* We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children鈥檚 hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
* Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
* Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
* Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
* 10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.
Please Note:
* Shorter hair will be separated from the ponytails and sold to offset the manufacturing costs. Although the shorter hair cannot be used in the hairpieces, it still greatly helps to reduce costs.
* Gray hair will be accepted and sold to offset the manufacturing costs.
* Colored hair is not usable if it is colored over bleached hair.

Hope this was helpful ~~~Why doesn't Locks of Love accept bleached or highlighted hair?
not all dread locks are dirty, there are many methods of creating dreadlocks and cleaning them. Dreadlocks can be chemically formed, back combed into shape or the 'neglect' method - just dont brush or condition your hair for like 6 months. You can easily wash dreadlocks with specially formulated shampoo, but the second you condition them they will fall apart. Anyway, back to the point, yeah you can't donate dreadlocks or highlighted/dyed/bleached hair because it's potentially damaged.
The hair has to be virgin hair, because it is often dyed, curl or straightened to the required colour. These processes are very difficult if there are existing colours on the hair, because, coloured hair reacts differently or be severly damaged. The hair is put through a cemical process when it is colllected to take out the tangles and remove the cuticle.
Dreadlocks are not used because the hair is matted together and cannot be seperated into neat groups of strands, not because of bugs. Bugs dont live on hair they use it to grip on whilst they feed off your blood. Therefore if the hair is no attached to the head, there is no food for them, they then die.
chemically treated hair is not something they want to make human hair wigs with. they want natural hair because its easier to work with and maintain for the person who will be receiving the wig.
dreadlocks are tricky. first of all, they are dirty! i don't care what anyone says. my friend had a client who got ';bugs'; when she had dread and had to shave it! ha not fun. its not discrimination, its just you don't know what the hair has been through. the condition isn't good after the dreads have been taken out.
locks of love wants hair that has been maintained and taken care of.
The process of creating dreadlocks severely damages the hair shaft. The individual hair is extremely frail and breaks easily, same with colored treated hair.
My hubby donates 2x a year. He grows his hair until he can donate 10';, then has a salon cut off his ponytail (which I always miss). He's been doing this for 5 years now.
To make human hair wigs, the hair has to be virgin hair (untouched by chemical processes), because it's stronger and makes better looking wigs.
Bleaching damages hair, it's just not as strong or healthy. even coloring over the bleaching will not remove the damage that has been done to the hair.
As for dreadlocks, There is a much higher chance that they are unclean, or even bug-infested. they are often filled with dust just because they cannot be as throughly cleaned as regular hair.
Do u know how dirty dread locks are? When you donate your hair they dont jsut make it into a wig right away, they need to clean it and disinfect it. Dread locks, would no longer be dread locks after that... they would fall apart
i believe that they dont accept colored or treated hair because they need healthy hair to work into a wig, they don't just use one persons hair for one wig, they work a lot of different colors together from different donors.
I'd guess that because once the hair is cut... the roots will not grow out to their true color and they sould have to dye the hair constantly.
Just a guess!
because hair that is bleached is weak hair and easy to break off
I have never heard of that?? I leave it up to my hairdresser to figure those things out! ;0

Therefore if the hair is no attached to the head, there is no food for them, they then die.
chemically treated hair is not something they want to make human hair wigs with. they want natural hair because its easier to work with and maintain for the person who will be receiving the wig.

come on guys 10 points to the person who answers all my questions!!!!Whats a good hair color or highlight for a filipino???
I am a licensed cosmetologist. I no longer work in a salon. To begin with going to a salon unless you know the person or someone who has been there does not mean you will get success. I have had my hair done by people who were naturals had it in the family who had no license who did excellent work or students and even some friends who had experience along with aptitude. A Cosmetology school will charge you less but you take a risk with a for profit school. A Vocational School has fewer open salon hours but if you ask for a student close to graduation with more experience along with as Vocational Schools tend to have less people going such that the teacher is more apt to be around to keep an eye on it and my experience is Vocational Schools tend to hire experienced successful salon owners who are thinking towards the day they retire which working at a vocational school can provide (I was trained at a Vocational School in Highschool the education tends to be better but we had to chase down patrons because they do not advertise). You sign a legal waiver at a cosmetology school not at a salon but it they mess you up at a salon you have not checked into sueing does ot fix your hair and I have worked on a rare occassion with people or been done by people who were not very competent so beware. But before you do anything that is permanent you can go to some store like Sally's who carries cosmetology supplies %26amp; try some temporary paint on colors to try out what you like. I found these to be very fun and entertaining as a young adult. I would use it to enhance bleach streaks or highlighting or my natural color. It is inexpensive and not very damaging to the hair. There are many paint on kits I have seen at discount %26amp; drug stores designed to highlight different colors of hair with matching highlights. Use caution with over the counter make sure if you use permanent that it is a peroxide based permanent color because some colors are metal which often have very bad reactions with other colors or permanent curling solutions (permanent waves). If you decide to use permanent hair color be sure to get a light slight trim at least on the bottom of your long hair as the ends tend to be dry I use to have hair that went down almost to my waist. Also condition it good, find a good shampoo and conditioner that will help keep the color in your hair and not remove it. Also there are a great many shampoos out there that actually help add highlights to your hair without using some of the more drying permanent colors. You can also use colors that have conditioners added to them which is important with your very long hair. I always use a conditioning color as I have very dry skin and hair. Hope this helps you. The correct spelling I believe is Phillipines Phillipino but it sounds like Filipino there are some words no matter how much I look them up I just cannot spell them because they sound nothing like they are spelled. I really like the answer above mine with all the color ideas they are really good. Light colors help lessen colors around the face bring in color this is why lighter colors are suggested for older people. Darker colors help bring character to the face. A color slightly darker than your hair along with one slightly lighter than your hair will bring very natural highlights. Also you can go to some Cosmetology store like Sallys which is common locally to hold up hair swatches they often have them there to see what they look like against your hair color. Keep in mind all color changes when put on your hair according to how your natural hair is receptive to it and how it interacts with your own color. Oh really then I have been reading people who do not know how to spell it either I really like all the answers I learned something from it all and I use to go to all the shows. I am impressed with the answers here. Well that is why I use spell checker and a word processing program there is not one here. OH look they do have a spell checker here it did not catch whether it was correct or not. You are correct what I read before I took as a credible source was incorrect but it is Phillipines and Filipino. Last one looks right to me anyways. Filipino'; is spelled correctly. Thanks I never went back to check answers before. Possibly your hair is lighter from sunlight so you may want to go with some sunlight looking highlight I really like the color answers above mine. There is something also called framing it can be done heavily like a layer that goes around the face it is very striking but not very natural or it can be done lighter with highlighting streaks all the way around the face or it can be mixed with other highlighting streaks throughout the hair with an increased amount around the face. The problem with your hair being long is it may require special techniques like foiling to keep the color from bleeding over into the other hair as putting really long hair through a cap is very difficult especially removing it as I have seen caps have to be cut off on long hair. I did a girl with very very red hair that was very long in a permanent wave once who had bleach streaks all they way down her red hair that were beautiful as she had a good toner put on it to make it strawberry blonde or lifting color was used so it is possible if they know how to remove it. But you will need to comb out the hair after cleaning it well then put something on it like a detangler or conditioner to pull off the cap. Caps are difficult and do not go all the way to the root whereas a foiling technique tends to be more expensive as it requires more skill than a cap. A cap can be ripped easily with long hair if one does not take time. The longest I have ever had my hair with a cap is below my shoulders to my shoulder blades. Have you tried any of the sun lightening treatments that often use a peroxide gel out in the sun you can put it on in streaks and even use a hair dryer to bring out highlights. They work fairly well but you have to be careful it can bring you up to an unnatural orange. I want to go ask some questions I am open to be written to directly if you want.Whats a good hair color or highlight for a filipino???
Deep Mahogany
Chesnut probably. Or black.
my aunt is working at the elizabeth arden in chicago , and You should go for a chestnut with dark dirty blonde highlights.
You should give me 10 points for answering just one question. Filipino women have the most beautiful hair in the world so keep it black.
thats good to go colours that anything but blonde or brunette. i seen too much asian with brunette colour thats great to go colour such as pourple or blue or copper. but make sure you get the right tone for your skin its hard to tell which exact tone of purple or blue best to go and check out the sample colour hair and put near your face. take care gd luck.
Get rich red highlights.
yes longer hair means more chemicals which means more cost.
highlights are very personal in choice so you can get more than 2 if you want. well if you want to make your face appear brighter use ';cool tone'; colours, these are basically ashy colours with the word ash or cool in them such as ash brown, ice blonde, beige or iridescent. these type of colour makes your skin appear brighter and fairer. you can also go for golden or mahogany shades like golden brown or mahogany. these colour will make you appear more darker or tanned. highlight are can be used to frame you face, you a highlight that is lighter around your face is nice. if you want to get color and highlights together choose colour that compliment each other like browns and with blond, reds with different shades of reds or just many shades of blonde. usually what most salon do is they use bleach to highlight hair which usually gives it a gold sometime orange shade, but a good toner can even things out. sorry i cant help you with the pricing since i don't live in the Philippines, but usually its free to ask for the price range in your area.
if you have the guts, go to a person whose hair you like the most and asked them where they get it done and how much does it cost.
good luck
Green - to go with the eyes!

Is lemon juice good for highlighted hair?
i want my hair to look like friend Elise's, her's looks natural blonde because she put lemon juice in her shampoo and used it. But mine is dirty blonde, and i recently got my blonde highlights for the 4th time. I want to know If putting lemon juice on my hair is a good idea or bad idea, i need help!Is lemon juice good for highlighted hair?
OK Hun...first off lemon juice works for some people and some people only so don't get mad if it doesn't work for you FIRST OFF get lemons. squeeze lemons. pour into thin shampoo. make sure hair it damp...not soaking.massage hair with lemon juice/shampoo for about 5 minutes. lay out in sun with juice/shampoo STILL IN IT make sure your out for at least 15 min.come back in (NOTE HAIR WILL BE EXTREMELY DRY) get in shower and wash out hair ( with conditioner) brush out then let dry and wait with fingers crossed for good results !!!! GOOD LUCK XD-meIs lemon juice good for highlighted hair?
No its just a myth that it works, my friend tried it and it didn't work. =] Being dirty blonde is better anyways.
I have use lemon juice in my hair, and it worked excellent, it brought my highlights out more.. One disadvantage though, dries your hair out really bad.. So, make sure you use conditioner after, also wash your hair after, my hair got really curly and gnarled from it.. Like I just came out of a pool..
It does help, just not dramatically. For example, if your hair is chesnut brown you won't end up looking like Gwen Stefani.
But, if your hair is already blondish, the lemon juice will help bring out the highlights and make them look brighter.
Happy highlighting! =]
It is a bad idea. All of the acids dry out your hair horribly.
isnt it a bad idea? Because, my friend told me its someone made it up, and doesnt really work as much.
Yes, then sprinkle it over your grilled shrimp...yummy
sometimes... also this product called sun in works!!
It won't really change your color unless you do it everyday.

I just used a highlight kit to dye my hair. it looks HORRIBLE, but i jw what to do about a burning scalp?
especially in case i do a correcting dyeI just used a highlight kit to dye my hair. it looks HORRIBLE, but i jw what to do about a burning scalp?
Try putting some Chamomile oil on your scalp and check out this website
http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/Artic鈥?/a>
Read the part about which shampoos and conditioners you should use because some big name brand products can make the burning worse. Also, correcting it yourself will more than likely make your hair look worse and the burning more intense. Trust your hairdresser and get over there stat. Good Luck : )I just used a highlight kit to dye my hair. it looks HORRIBLE, but i jw what to do about a burning scalp?
you can't correct it your self first because you would be double processing it and only a hairdresser can do that with out ruining your hair ( double processing can be harmful if done wrong. It can result in loosing some of your hair or ALOT of breakage ) secondly depending on what you used and what it looks like you are going to have to put the right color on top of it or else you can make it look even worse. ( You can distort the color even more ) I would just make an appointment with a hairdresser.
As far as your scalp burning. Hang your head in the tub and run cool water on your head until the burning has cooled. Then wash your hair ( dont worry about how your not supposed to do that for 24-48 hrs you would be getting it fixed anyway) and let air dry. This will wash any of the dye residue away.
Good Luck
for right now try olive oil, just put it on your scalp. it moisturizes well, and conditions your horribly mistreated hair. then, after about 10 minutes, hop in the shower, wash it off well, and rush over to your beauty salon and get it fixed. your stylist will give you a product to help with your scalp and she or he will fix your color mistake.
good luck!
Go to the hair dressers and get it fixed proper. I've been in this situation before and this was what I was told to do!

My friend is going to be professionally highlighting my hair in a few weeks, need to do allover color first?
My hair is currently colored and highlighted. Can I highlight over all of this for summer or do I have to color it all first? My friend is going to be professionally highlighting my hair in a few weeks, need to do allover color first?
yeah probly, just to get rid of all the old highlights. My friend is going to be professionally highlighting my hair in a few weeks, need to do allover color first?
Do not color it first. You will only make your hair more damaged when you highlight it again. Just let your friend be the stylist. I am sure he/she knows.live.com

Does aluminum foil ruin the results of highlighting your hair?
I want to dye my hair a auburnish color and put blonde in it.. but I wonder if the aluminum foil will ruin the color ? Please help!Does aluminum foil ruin the results of highlighting your hair?

How much would it cost to get one highlight in my hair?
i want just one highlight in the front and i go to regis or mastercuts in Savannah GA but i dont know how much it will costHow much would it cost to get one highlight in my hair?
Well I went to great clips and well for all the highlights(two colors) it was $80 but I got it half off cuz my mom just got hers done. Oh and I have like shoulder length too but it is thick.
But the price should be aroung 15-30 dollarsHow much would it cost to get one highlight in my hair?
That really all depends on how long your hair is, how thick you want the highlight, what color your hair is and what color you want the highlight. Different salons charge different prices for this type of thing, so your best option is just to go in and ask (you don't have to commit right then-at least you shouldn't have to, and if they tell you you do, then you should just go somewhere else)

When to re-highlight hair?
Hellooo! I got my hair highlighted (spill highlights, pretty much only the top!) 6 weeks ago. My roots aren't TERRIBLE but they are noticeable and I'm going back to school in a couple days (an hour and a half away) and I'd like to go ahead and get more highlights (not just root touch up, but more in general because I want it lighter). Do you think its too soon? When to re-highlight hair?
I would go ahead and have them re-highlighted. My stylist actually recommends 6-8 weeks to keep everything looking the best, plus you'll probably be surprised that the color has faded more than you think.. Go ahead and get it done if you can! When to re-highlight hair?
I personally don't think it's too soon to re highlight it. The best way to find out is to ask your hair dresser to find out the best time to do so. That way you get a professional opinion .

:)Would it be better to strip then highlight hair or dye then highlight hair ?
If your that worried about what to do I suggest you just get it done at a salon. If you strip your hair it takes out ALL the color, so you can dye it again like it says trust me. But they make something that will take out dye and not turn your hair to white to have it re-dyed. it's just to remove the added color, doesnt but it completely back to normal, and it also depends on how much dye you have put in your hair... b/c like u said the best thing would be strip it to re dye it and do ur highlights as well while you dye it. but if you just dye it- depending in the colors you have now they will show through.. but b4 u do dying you should use a color shampoo. certain colored shamoo will take out colors in your hair, its great to use before getting ur hair done, it'll be a lot easier. which you could find at a salon... either way you have your work cut out for you. Good Luck.Would it be better to strip then highlight hair or dye then highlight hair ?
dye it than highlight. if its a really different color than ur natural color bleach it if not just dye it and highlight bc it might not come out as the color u want

Oh god. Neither, that will RUIN your hair. I would suggest getting it done professionally and using a deep conditioner daily for like 2 weeks.
i would say dye than highlight
because when i dye my hair it feels much better than highlights
and stripping is very damaging.

Is there any sort of tea rinse that brings out red highlights in hair?
I have some red in my hair but I want to bring it out more without using dyes or henna. Is there any sort of tea rinse that brings out red highlights in hair?
john frieda makes shampoo and conditioner for diff hair colorIs there any sort of tea rinse that brings out red highlights in hair?
Acidic rinses remove product build up and make healthy hair more shiny (vinegar is the most common natural acidic rinse). It basically works the same as a clarifying shampoo does -- removes gunk that makes it look dull.
Anything that naturally lightens hair will also increase how obvious your red highlights are. Sun is the most obvious natural source, but you can also use a honey + cinnamon hair masque to create a slow-acting gentle lightening. Honey and cinnamon create natural peroxide when mixed with water, so you could gently lighten the hair this way. It's much much more gentle than bottled peroxide and smells amazing. Honey is also a natural humectant (sucks up water) so it moisturizes hair wonderfully too.
1/2 cup RAW/uncooked honey (pasteurized or cooked honey will not work)
1/2 cup filtered or distilled water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Apply to hair and wrap your hair up in a swim cap, a shower cap, saran wrap, or a plastic grocery bag, then wrap your head up in a towel over top. Let sit for 2-10 hours depending on how busy you are. I've only left mine on for 3 hours at a time, and had to do it twice to see a difference, but it did work. You wont be a peroxide blond by any stretch, but it does work and is damage-free.
Yes there is. Use hibiscus tea for red hair or to bring out red highlights.
http://teangling.com/?d=B001EPPH1M
You can also use 1 tablespoon of beet juice (about 1 tbs, be careful it stains) and 1/4 cup of fresh catnip.
Boil one cup of water for tea. Let the tea bag in for 15 minutes. Add the rest of the stuff. Let it cool. Rinse your hair. Be careful not to stain theclothes or the whole house.live.com

Bleaching hair or highlight or what?
i have naturally red hair but it is dyed black and very long, id like to go blonde whats the easiest way to do this?
im almost 16 and i dont need my hair falling out lol.Bleaching hair or highlight or what?
bleaching!Bleaching hair or highlight or what?
yes, you most DEFINITELY have to bleach it..
it is quite harsh on your hair, so be sure to bleach it one day, THAN the next day or a couple days after, dye it to your desired blonde shade!!
x
Bleaching it is the easiest way.
dyed black and wanna go blonde huh?.. good luck... the main problem would be to have a hair color technician use and artificial pigment removing product to get you close to your natural pigment and then to use bleaching agents to lift you to blonde... long and expensive process called a color correction
it may be possible but need to have consultation first... I've done it a ton of times but it all depends on the hair the products that have been used in the past
good luck
DONT BLEACH UR HAIR!!!!!!! ever. it killed my hair. if you ever try to dye ur hair blonde tell the stylist go the lightist blonde without using bleach. or jsut buy a box dye the dont kill ur hair.
Bleaching naturally red or brown/black hair is very harsh on your hair. I'd recommend you not do it.
I wouldn't do it either, I mean unless u want ur hair to fall out...
you should ask some one professional. If you have natural red in your hair the high lights or bleach will turn out ORANGE. not what i think you would go for.
it know cause it happen to me and i was pissed.
So ask a real PRO what you should do, otherwise... you'll be orange/blonde
I would see a stylist and get it professionally done just to insure that your hair won't fall out. Black with dirty blonde highlights would look really really cool. I would give it more texture and just overall look really cool

I have dark brown hair any suggestions for highlight colors? (Scene girl, brown eyes, medium toned)?
red, or blond. or both.
there's this color by revlon [deep mahogany, i think?]
that you can dye your hair. mine's dark brown too, and i dye it this color. it's barely darker than my natural hair, but it gives it a reddish tint. :]

Can you use a highlight kit to bleach hair? ?
soo i have this highlight kit, and i was wondering if it is the same thing as buying a bleach kit?
if i wanna bleach a small streak of my hair, could i just use this instead of running out and buying a at home bleach kit?Can you use a highlight kit to bleach hair? ?
Just make sure you read what it says about touching the product to your scalp. You can really burn your scalp if you let the stuff touch your scalp depending on what formula it is. Otherwise it's the same type of stuff. Make sure you get in on thick and evenly. You can get it very close to your scalp without getting it on your scalp.
That's usually the difference in a bleach kit and highlight kit. One is formulated to go on the scalp, and one is not!

I want to get my hair highlighted. Does anyone know a really good product to prevent fading?
Hi, to keep your highlights looking like you just had them done use the product called shimmer lights you can get it at Sally's Beauty supply stores.I want to get my hair highlighted. Does anyone know a really good product to prevent fading?
Well, the only advice I can give is that if you are getting your hair highlighted blonde, there's no need to prevent fading, since dyeing hair blonde is actually stripping the color out of your hair. ;)
I got my hair highlighted innn... February? January? And it's still as bright as ever. The red, however, completely faded. xPI want to get my hair highlighted. Does anyone know a really good product to prevent fading?
Buy something that's name brand, like Loreal. Don't buy some no-name stuff. I don't know that there will be dye that will necessarily prevent fading. But there is shampoo you can buy that will keep your color... fuller I guess you could say? You could actually probably find it for cheap at the grocery store. Good luck.
Redken has some good products to help color last longer. I can't think of the name right now. But it is similar to color extenders.live.com

How to highlight hair?
I have brown hair with natural blond highlights from my hair getting bleached by the sun. I hate being called a blond just because of a few streaks, so I want to dye the highlights.
My hair has a tiny bit of red in it, and I want to make it more pronounced in the highlights. Is there a way to dye blond highlights with a brownish red and make it look natural? Should I just leave the dye on for less than the instructions say to make it look less natural? Any tips?
(Let me know if you need any more info in order to better answer the question.)How to highlight hair?
You need to go to a professional. Just becuase you can't just highlight over the highlights you have it doesn't work like that. If you want to change or add color it's best to go to someone. You could mess your hair up... trust me I have messed mine up plenty of times!! And in the end spent the same amount as I would of if I had just gone to a pro the first time! How to highlight hair?
do it professionaly it might be more expensive but they will do it do it for u so nice.i have brown hair with light gold highlights and its natural
I would get it done professionally, it may be a bit more expensive, but doing highlights at home, or even dying at home never turns out how your expect it to! If you go in and explain what you want done, they will be able to help you, and you will be pleased with the outcome!

If I put pink in my highlighted blonde hair will the pink eventually run and mix with my blonde?
I have medium lenght hair and I've just done my Junior Certificate exams(i'm irish)And when the results come out my mam is gonna give me money so I wanted to change my hair(in a salon).
My hair is naturally brown but I have it highlighted blonde.I want to maybe put pink chunks or pink streaks or just pink underneath my fringe or something but i'm worried that in time, when its washed the pink will fade and mix in with the blonde and won't wash out completely and I can imagine this will not look very UGLY lol.But i'm really keen on the idea.So I want to make sure it will turn out alright and as i'm 15 I haven't got the money to be getting my hair toned or anything if the pink goes wrong. If I put pink in my highlighted blonde hair will the pink eventually run and mix with my blonde?
well..i have natural blonde hair and i did it with the home stuff and it didnt run to the rest of my hair it just faded and it looked bad. and i know ppl who got it professionally done and it still faded and didnt look that great. i say get the fake hair clips. i know ppl with those and i never knew it!! and if you really dont like the look you just take em out..they look soo real

What hair dye can I use if I have already highlighted my hair?
I have had my hair highlighted for years now but I have gone to Uni and don't have the time, money and don't know of a good salon nearby so I want to buy an over the counter hair colour.
I have not had it highlighted for about 2 months now and it has 2-3 cm of root. My hair has 3 shades in it, they are, blonde, brown, and a dark caramel colour. I want to go a light brown copper tone (like Mary Kate Olsen) using something like Loreal Experte.
So can I use an over the counter hair dye or must I go to the salon? What hair dye can I use if I have already highlighted my hair?
I am a hairsylist/makeup artist from dallas. DONT buy somehing from the grocery store. If you must do it yourself, I would suggest sallys. You control the color that way. Get something like a 7N and a 7BG, with a 10 volume devolper. Mix equal parts. This color would be a caramally pretty color! but still be in the blond family! What hair dye can I use if I have already highlighted my hair?
you can use any brand or color
to be the best bet, go to a salon, you dont want green hair or somethin. if you want an all over color then you may not get it from an over the counter product
Over the counter hair dyes are so much improved over the years that even a caveman can do it. (I'll probably get sued over copyright infringement-lawyers can't take a joke). I have ALWAYS used over the counter. Just put on an old t shirt and cover the floor with something. Be slow and easy your first time or you'll make a mess. If you are timid about doing this find a rinse (#1) instead of a permanent dye. You will be improving your hair by doing this-highlighting, stripping and all other chemicals you put on your hair is damaging. I just went back to my original haircolor, love it. I look like me. All of the good dyes have a conditioner package inside. Good Luck but you won't need it. PS. I brush my hair back, all of it, you can see in between the rows, run the tip through the rows and run a finger over it as you go-less running. I do the whole front and sides then throw my head over and do the back-then bring all of your hair up on top of your head and dye that part (the ends) then I go thru it all with a wide comb over the tub, of course this only applies if your hair is not short, if it's short it'll be a snap.

Can you highlight hair that is all natural and relax it later with out it breaking out?
I am african american and i have grown out my hair to its natural state. I have several curl texture through out my hair but for the most part i apply miss jessies products and do double strand twist and coils. When my hair was relaxed it would have some hightlights. but now my hair is so dark. i occasionall put a dark auburn rinse to give it some color and to cover a few grays. I would really like to find away to highlight a few strands through out my hair; but having the option of relaxing it later if i decided to go back that route. I am concerned about breakage. Is there a less harsher way to achieve this, also not have the brassy orangey look that you get when you highlight dark hair? years ago when iwas younger i had my hair relaxed but i did a process called luminizing ( I used ash blonde to kill the orange) and its was great, no breakeage, sublte highlights. i know i should go to a salon but i dont have the money to afford that. thats why i went natural so i could deal with itCan you highlight hair that is all natural and relax it later with out it breaking out?
Congratulations on being nature! Don't go back to the relaxer route. You can do a rinse or highlight but I highly recommend that you have a professional do one or the other. If you do the highlights, let a professional do your relaxer so they give you the right one with the right PH balance and a good deep conditioner. The truth is, if you color your hair and get a relaxer you are going to have breakage! There is no way around it. The chemicals thin out your hair and make them weak. Whatever you decided keep you hair moisturized with Shea butter or something natural and give yourself a deep conditioner with a cap at least every two weeks.
Play with non permanent highlights so you can change your look. Just remember anything permanent....is permanent and has permanent damage.

I have dark/medium brown hair and i want to highlight...?
or dye it. I was going to do blonde highlights but i don't want to anymore.
what other colors would look good?
i was thinking red but what color red?
like red brown auburn or what?
thanks!I have dark/medium brown hair and i want to highlight...?
My natural hair color is the same as yours. I am a hair dye fanatic and have died my hair 8 times. I've done black, which usually doesnt look good on people but I have fair skin and green eyes so it looked kind of cool. I also tried an auburn red, which looked really good because it looked like a light brown and then in the sun it had this really cute glossy shine of red. I would recommend the auburn red or get lightish brown highlights (http://mtblog.allure.com/beauty__reporter/images/2008/03/03/bilson.gif) or try the red (http://daytimeconfidential.com/system/files/images/Shenae_Grimes.jpg)

My Hair is dark brown so what color would suit me? should i get highlights or lowlights ect something that would look really cute but not drastic and any advice on how to style my hair as well?
Thanxx in advance =]Wanting to highlight hair help! *pic included*?
Since your skin eyes and hair are so dark, mainly any type of hilight will stand out quite a bit. What I'm thinking is something I've done to my hair. It's a red brown that I've gotten before and it's soooo pretty. It blends with dark hair perfectly but when light shines on it a little the red really stands out and it's sooo gorgeous. Im me or email me and I can help you more. Or check out my beauty help site www.freewebs.com/helpmystyleWanting to highlight hair help! *pic included*?
hey you look really pretty
are you indian, cause im bengali so
ok nevermind
well i dont think you should color it, i mean no offense but if you did it would be ugly and look like a hispanic girl's hair(no offense) but they color it too much..
anyways i think your hair color suits you, but if you wanted a change i guess you can do light brown, that looks elegant not cheap
I think burgundy would be really cute in your hair.

Get lowlights. And layer it A LOT. The lowlights should be Dark Red. You would look good with some red!
I would use a violet-red color in your hair. Your hair is dark enough to pull this off without it being too drastic. It would make your hair look more ';rich'; looking.
I think black highlights (or lowlights) would look great without being too drastic.
Start with some blonde highlights. If it's too much you can tone in some red. You will be even MORE beautiful!
:)
dont get highlights!!!!! get low-lights or reverse highlights they are darker than your actual hair and looks great!
I would say any color, only beautiful women can really look great in dark hair and you do, anyone can look good blond
First let me say that you're beautiful. I think some light brown highlights would look good. Very light brown, almost, but not really blond because you have darker hair.
i would get some light caramel highlights, and as far as styling goes, i might get some layers, and some thinning-out.
Very pretty girl. I love doing highlights in my hair, so i suggest that you do either blond not too blond, or more perferct reddish highlights. The red it so perfect for Christmas and New years. Try it and send me a pic, i know you gonna look so pretty.
Dark Burgundy streaks will look great...have a layer cut.live.com

She told me I have to go darker to do the hightlights.Wanna color my hair and get highlights wondering if a edium beige blond as the base then highlights look good?
I get my hair done like that.. I have a dark blonde natural color but I get 2 sometimes 3 colors put in. I usually do beige blonde and a pale blonde and then a light brown... its so pretty and i get compliments all the time on it! I absolutly hate the yellow blonde hair color people put on their hair, its so trashy looking, not natural at all! Go with a soft blonde and stay way from the yellows. Beige blonde is the way to go!Wanna color my hair and get highlights wondering if a edium beige blond as the base then highlights look good?

What hair colors and highlights should I get?
I recently dyed my hair light brown (darkish blonde) and I want to get highlights of some kind. (I'm willing to redye my whole hair again). I want it to be different, no just regular blonde highlights - that's boring. I want something new for me. Also I have choppy layers and hair length a little below my shoulders.
I would apperciate suggestions and pictures! Thanks! What hair colors and highlights should I get?

How can I dye my brown hair with blonde highlights to black hair?
I am asian by the way and consider going color crazy through times. Can I do it myself because I want to save money, if so, what kind of hair dye product should I used to get that color effect? How can I dye my brown hair with blonde highlights to black hair?
I dye my hair at home and have colored it with success. I have had streaked, and frosted hair blond over dark brown and sometimes reddish tint streaks. Right now I use a product from the hair color section of the store that is the tint called clove for color.I colored over my highlights. It is a nice brown. It did very well. Sometimes I like to let some of the previous highlights come through which makes a nice effect. It has extra conditioner cream included in the package. It looks great and really shiny after I blow dry it into shape. It's very easy to do touch ups as well. How can I dye my brown hair with blonde highlights to black hair?
I wouldn't try to do it yourself. It's too hard. I'd go to the salon. Even they would have a hard time there. It is hard to go darker once you've lightened your hair.

Hair Highlights for hair that is a copper/auburn/brown/blond mix?
I have a lot of colors in my natural hair color and want the highlights to match the tone but be different intensities. My stylist suggest a darker brown/copper (might be too dark) and a blonde that I feel is too light. I'd like to keep with the copper tones--I kind of feel like the straight colors in her book don't work since my hair is a unique mix of colors. 8 years ago a friend %26amp; stylist did my highlights and she would custom mix the colors, so I'm nervous to go to just anyone (I moved far away from my friend). Any tips on making sure I get a good set of colors for highlights?Hair Highlights for hair that is a copper/auburn/brown/blond mix?
Def. stick with a pro, don't try to do this yourself. Try to find a picture of what you want to better explain it to your stylist. I have highlights that i feel are very natural, and my stylist used a mix of 2 different shades of blonde. ( I have brown hair) Ask your stylist to show you 'the hair board'. Most salons have a board with all their dye colors on it and you can see all the different shades. When you decide on soimething, trust your stylist, it might look different on your hair than on the fake hair board. Once you find something that's perfect, they can document it for you so when you go back for a touch-up, they know exactly what they used.Hair Highlights for hair that is a copper/auburn/brown/blond mix?
OK I JUST WANTED TO SAYY: i was just like you. i was litterally begging my parents to let me get highlights, but i guess thats not the point for you. my point is, i wanted them so badly. same as ur colors[ myy mom just let me get blonde (i have brown hair) ] neways so i got them adn i loved them at first. but they are a lot of work. like every2-3 months u have to get ur roots done. i never got them re-done because after about a month, i HATED them. i died myy hair dark(non-permanent) just to get myy highlights to grow out. the same thing happened with alllllll of myy friends who followed me and got highlights. im not saying u shouldnt get them, because that idea is really cute, but im just saying they are a lot of work. and really expensive to keep getting them redone and stuff.
go to different hairdressers and see what they say, get them to do samples so you can have a good look.
I agree with madammeow..., call your friend/hairstylist and ask her exactly what she used on you. Your new stylist should be able to do the same or match real close. Best of luck!
You can call your your friend and ask her which brands/shades she used. Then you can tell your new stylist what they were and they should have a good idea of what to use.

Go to a salon to get it re-done so it can be prefessional and your in no doubt that they will make a mistake! Hope this helps and whatever you choose works out! :)Help, I had my hair highlighted and now it looks orange!!?
The bleach wasn't processed long enough. Your hair goes through different levels of color before turning white at the end of the color spectrum. You should go to a salon and have them redo the same strands and just leave it on longer.
Buy a box of hair dye at a grocery store and then dye your hair back to your natural color by yourself and then go and get the highlights professionally done.

Which is the right hair colour for jet black hair & how do i colour it.Should i colour full, crown or highlight
My hair is jet black, little dry and damaged with little grey hairs strands in betweens. They are little longer then my shoulders and its a step cut with feather cut in the front. My facecut is full round.Which is the right hair colour for jet black hair %26amp; how do i colour it.Should i colour full, crown or highlight
Try using DARK BROWN OR DARKEST.. Usually people that get older %26amp; start getting grey should use lighter colors then the natural because it compliments them better. Using it all over is probably best to cover all grey areas...Which is the right hair colour for jet black hair %26amp; how do i colour it.Should i colour full, crown or highlight
I say go for highlighting, It would look pretty good :)
If your hair is jet black naturally you have to bleach it! If I were you i would put a mulberry all through permanent and try to keep the natural look it is more beautiful, for the dry hair find yourself a hair mousturiser. If your hair becomes quite oily only wash the tips of your hair with conditioner.
If it's damaged I would go for the highlights. You can buy good highlighting kits but if it's your first eime, get it done by a pro. I'd suggest dark red (auburn) highlights especially if U are asian.
